Add color to your garden with these beautiful hydrangeas. You get them as a small plant. Two of each color. The following colors are supplied: 2x Snowball (white), 2x Bouquet (pink), 2x Blue wave (blue) and 2x Sibilla (red).
Method
With Hydrangea macrophylla we have two flowering forms, namely the normal spherical flowers and the H. macrophylla “Teller” species with their flat umbels. With the latter, with its flat screens, little or no pruning is required. We only cut away the dead branches and the weaker branches. With the species with bulbous flowers, you have to be more precise if you want to enjoy new flowers every year.
Cut off last year's dead flowers to just above a thick flower bud. These are usually just below the spent flowers. A flower bud is a thicker bud, along either side of the stem. One-year-old branches should certainly not be pruned as there will almost always be a flower bud on the head of the stem.
Further pruning
1. Prune weak stems and older wood of 3 years or more to the ground.
2. If there are few branches, we can cut a few "young" branches at the bottom, above two eyes, so that the branch can branch back. (two new branches will grow from the two remaining eyes) Goal: to obtain more branches, a beautiful, denser shrub.
3. If there are too many branches, we can "thin out" the shrub, pruning the shrub lightly. We must be able to move “freely” with the pruning shears. The shrub should be airy and still retain a beautiful shape.
