Chamaerops Humilis (Europese Dwergdadelpalm)
The Chamaerops Humilis is one of the most common palm species in Northern Europe, and is also the only palm that occurs naturally in Europe. This palm tree is therefore also called the European fan palm. In southern European countries, this Chamaerops palm can grow up to four meters high in the wild with dozens of trunks. The Chamaerops can tolerate considerable frost as long as it is dry during the winter. This palm is also most resistant to strong winds. The growth habit of this hardy palm is stocky and therefore has a shrub-like appearance. The Chamaerops Humilis makes several cuttings in addition to its own trunk, so that the palm increases in width even at a young age. It is winter hardy to -12°C. It is a typical fan palm that grows compactly as a bushy shrub. The Chamaerops humilis palm tree can reach a maximum height of 8 meters, but usually it remains at 1 to 2 meters.
